Richard Schechner is a pioneer of Performance Studies. A scholar, theatre director, editor, and playwright he’s College Professor of Performance Studies on the Tisch Faculty of the Arts at New York College and Editor of TDR: The Journal of Performance Studies. He’s the writer of Public Area (1969), Environmental Theater (1973), The Finish of Humanism (1982), Performance Concept (2003, Routledge), Between Theater and Anthropology (1985), The Future of Ritual (1993, Routledge), and Over, Beneath, and Round: Essays on Performance and Tradition (2004). His books have been translated into French, Spanish, Korean, Chinese language, Japanese, Serbo-Croat, German, Italian, Hungarian, Bulgarian and Polish. He’s the overall editor of the Worlds of Performance collection revealed by Routledge and the co-editor of the Enactments collection revealed by Seagull Books.
