Michael Molloy has made the research of faith his life’s work. Fascination with faith started with curiosity in the structure of temples, mosques, church buildings, and shrines. Experiencing ceremonies at these locations led to a love of spiritual music and artwork. In his early graduate work, he targeted on the imagery of clouds and darkness in mystical literature. In his doctoral work, he examined the mystical considered Aldous Huxley, after Huxley had been influenced by Hinduism and Mahayana Buddhism. To do that, he interviewed Huxley’s spouse Laura, Huxley’s sister-in-regulation, and buddies of Huxley.
Molloy acquired a grant from the East-West Heart in Hawai`i to check there, and he acquired his doctorate from the College of Hawai`i. Throughout this time, he studied in Japan with Abe Masao in Kyoto and with Sobharani Basu at Banaras Hindu College in Varanasi. He practiced Zen meditation at Bushinji in Shikoku and later acquired a certificates from the Oomoto College of Conventional Japanese Arts in Kameoka, Japan. He has written Experiencing the World’s Religions (McGraw-Hill) and The Christian Expertise (Bloomsbury). At the moment he’s writing a memoir of his grandparents and dad and mom and their spiritual background.
Molloy has taught many philosophy and faith programs, together with World Religions, Asian Philosophies, Western Mysticism, Greek and Roman Philosophy, Ethics, Nietzsche, Faith and the Which means of Existence, and Indian Philosophy. He’s a Professor Emeritus of the College of Hawai`i. To enrich his tutorial work, he has had three exhibitions of his work―”Landscapes of the Thoughts,” “Luminous Darkness,” and “Renaissance.” He co-directed two radio sequence ofi nterviews with musicians, writers, and artists on KAIM-FM and Hawai`i Public Radio. He labored on the Inari Shrine Preservation Committee to maneuver the shrine to a brand new location and then to renovate it.
